There
are several methods to correct presbyopia. This methods can be separated
in "extraocular" and "intraocular".
Extraocular techniques
This techniques work by expanding the sclera (the white section of the
eye surrounding the cornea), generating the distance lost between the
lens equator and the cilliary muscle (see picture).
There are two techniques to achieve this: in the first one, two intrascleral
implants are used to obtain scleral expansion (Schachar technique). The
second one achieves the scleral expansion by means of a linear ablation
on the sclera. For this technique a laser is used to obtain pre-determined
length, width and thickness in relation to the necessary correction need
for each individual case.
Intraocular techniques
In this technique, intraocular lenses are implanted to correct the vision
of each patient.
